An Assisted Living community provides help for older adults who need help with one or more of the activities of daily living. These include:
- Bathing
- Eating
- Getting dressed
- Using the bathroom
- Getting in and out of bed
- Walking
- Taking medications
Needing assistance with one or more of these can be stressful or even impossible for spouses or family members. That’s where an Assisted Living community can help. These provide skilled staff who are available around the clock and trained to assist with the activities of daily living. Assisted Living communities also provide vital social interaction and friendships which promote better health and happiness, especially to seniors living on their own.
An Assisted Living community does not provide advanced nursing care. Also, some people who need assistance walking (for example, with a cane or walker) may still be able to live independently, either at home or in an independent living community.
